The Technologist pathway incorporates three work placements complemented by a series of courses over a period of twelve months.  Our graduates are placed in teams and will work on projects that involve multiple stages, which may include requirements analysis, design, simulation, experimentation, benchwork, prototype development and testing.

The first placement will be for six months, in an area related to your background and will build upon your specialist skills.  This is the area to which you will return upon completion of the graduate program year. The two other placements will be in areas designed to give you a broad range of experience and exposure to the organisation and its capabilities. Together these placements will fast track you to becoming an expert in your field.

The following are a few of the areas within DSD where you could apply your technological expertise..

IT Systems Development

• Design and develop innovative software solutions for challenging problems using C/C++, Java and Perl
• Perform testing, systems integrations and deploy mission critical systems
• Signal processing and
• Develop prototypes
• Real time applications

Capability Assurance

• Strengthen computer and network security
• Tune high performance super computers
• Maintain and configure complex systems
• Engineer and maintain international communication networks

 Information Security

• Assess products and systems for vulnerabilities
• Penetration testing
• Provide IT security policy advice and assistance, threat assessments, and incident response
• Cryptographic services
• Education and Training

DSD is seeking graduates, final year students and experienced professionals with strong academic or high level skills and industry experience in a diverse range of fields. The following technical skills are needed throughout DSD and include – but are not limited to;

Software Engineering	JAVA, C++, Perl, XML, HTML, Web Applications, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Rapid Prototyping, Algorithm Development
Network Engineering	Design / Analysis of LANs/Wans, Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Protocols
Communications	Digital and Analog, Fixed and Mobile Wireless, Satellite, Antenna Design
Systems Engineering	End-to-End Realtime Operating Systems, Signals Processing, VHDL/ Hardware Development
Microelectronics	VHDL, FPGA, Microelectronic Manufacturing and Testing (MCM, SOC) Electronic Packaging, VLSI
